China: Barley import could reach up to 8 mln tonnes this year

During Jan/June of this year China imported 4.52 mln tonnes of barley, the annual figure will certainly reach 7.0 – 8.0 mln tonnes, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in August.

Over the reporting period, Australia delivered 3.97, Canada 0.537 mln tonnes of barley to China, it is reported.

In spite of large sales of Chinese maize from reserve stocks, barley remained an important feeder. Estimates are that 2.5 mln tonnes of the imports were destined for the feed industry.
