Malting news UK: Barley usage for brewing, malting, and distilling up 0.4% in Q2 2017

In Q2 2017, United Kingdom’s brewers, maltsters and distillers used 477 thousand tonnes of barley, up 0.4%, and 154 thousand tonnes of wheat, down 16%, against the same period in 2016, Defra said in its August report.

Crop year to date barley usage totalled 1.847 mln tonnes (versus 1.821 mln in the same period last year), while wheat usage was 705 thousand tonnes (vs. 649 thousand).

Data are from Defra’s monthly cereal usage surveys which cover all flour millers and brewers, maltsters and distillers and oat millers in the United Kingdom.
