World: Hop crop expected at around 100,000 tonnes this year
On the occasion of the summer meeting of the International Hop Growers Convention (IHGC), which took place in Yakima, USA on August 1st, 2017, the member countries presented a first estimate on this years hop harvest.
Forecasts are for worldwide output amounting to around 100,000 tonnes in 2017. This equates to a decrease of circa 9% compared to the previous year.
The most important reason for the expected drop of production is the unfavourable weather in parts of the European growing regions. There was a draught since the beginning of June, which lasted until noteworthy rainfalls in the last week of July, IHGC reported.
