EU: Another strong week for EU malting barley
It was another strong week for EU malting barley with prices moving up sharply, GrainCom reported on August 4.
On Friday, August 4 the market calmed down a bit, but the general sentiment remains firm.
The weather forecast is still wet for Scandinavia, UK probably drier for a short timeframe which should normally enable farmer to continue harvesting (at least in the south). The longer term forecast is still wet.
GrainCom estimate around 10-15% harvested so far in the UK, with tendency for higher proteins on the lighter soils (but not necessarily representative for the whole crop).
Germany is still difficult due to too much rains and wet fields. There are fears of disease pressure and pre-germination. Only 2/3 is cut so far on a national level, it is reported.
