Mercosur: Argentina’s barley acreage, production forecast to decline this year

Barley acreage estimates for Argentina vary widely, 700 – 750,000 ha is the average guess, which is round about 10% lower than last year, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported.

Argentina’s barley production may amount to 2.7-2.8 mln tonnes vs. 3.2 mln tonnes last year.
Heavy precipitation hindered the timely harvest of soybeans and will delay seeding of spring grains.

In Brazil, private forecasts are larger plantings, 125,000 vs. 95,000 ha last year, but a reduction from 200,000 to 175,000 ha in Uruguay. The supply and demand balance in Mercosur will probably be tighter than last year, analysts believe.
