Brewing news USA, NY: The Blue Line Brewery of Saranac Lake opens new location

The Blue Line Brewery of Saranac Lake has opened a new location at 43 Maple St. and will be brewing beer there soon, the North Country Now reported on June 4.

“Right now we’re trucking our beer down from Saranac Lake,” said Mark Gillis, who owns the business with his wife, Veronica Gillis.

They are not brewing any beer or ale in Potsdam yet, but it is in the plans.

“We have a bigger new system in Saranac Lake and we’ll be moving the smaller one here,” Gillis said on the phone from the Potsdam spot.

He says they will probably be serving Potsdam-made beers “in about 90 days.”

“We have anywhere from six to eight beers on tap, depending on the day,” Gillis said.

A few of the favorites they offer are Black Fly IPA (India pale ale), Leaning Pine IPA, and Split Rock Ale.

They also have a bar food menu with items they make from scratch. “Everything we do is pretty much from scratch, not from the freezer,” he said. For instance, they make the dough and the sauce for their individual 10-inch pizzas.

“We have a tremendous following in Saranac Lake and it’s starting here in Potsdam,” he said.

“It’s only been a month since we opened and already 50 to 60 percent of our sales are from returning customers,” Gillis said. He bases that on analysis of credit card records.

He has pride in the brewery’s motto, “Great food, great beer priced for locals.”

“A family of four can walk out of here for under $50,” he said

They are still working up their full specials schedule, but so far they have $2 cheese pizzas when you buy a pint of beer on Tuesdays, 60¢ wings on Wednesdays, half-price pizzas on Thursdays, and $3 pints on Sundays.

They are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 to 10 pm., Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m. “and later if there are enough people,” and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m. They are closed on Mondays.
