UK: Brewers, maltsters and distillers increase barley and wheat usage in Q1 2017

In Q1 2017, United Kingdom’s brewers, maltsters and distillers used 460 thousand tonnes of barley, up 3.2%, and 172 thousand tonnes of wheat, up 21%, against the same period in
2016, Defra reported earlier in May.

Crop year to date (July 2016 – March 2017) barley usage was 1.371 mln tonnes vs. 1.346 mln in the same period of season 2015/16. Wheat usage was up 18.4% to 551 thousand tonnes, it is reported.
