Brewing news Canada, ON: Karate Garage Brewers launches as collaborative project of two Ontario brewers

Two Ontario brewers have announced the official launch of a collaborative brewing project inspired by their early homebrewing days, Canadian Beer News reported on March 22.

Karate Garage Brewers has been founded by Jeff Broeders (head brewer at Toronto’s Indie Ale House) and Aaron Spinney (formerly at Sawdust City Brewing, and head brewer & co-founder of the soon to open Merit Brewing in Hamilton).

Taking its name from the garage where the duo produced homebrewing experiments during college – which was in turn named after a scene from the classic comedy Step Brothers – Karate Garage is intended to “conjure those college vibes to create raw, unedited beers while having a total blast and making great friends along the way,” according to Spinney.

The new project will be officially kicked off on Sunday April 2nd with a tap takeover at Craft Heads Brewing in Windsor. Dubbed BrewstleMania, and taking place on the same day as WrestleMania 33, the event will feature more than 30 wrestling-themed beers brewed by Spinney and Broeders together with Bryan Datoc of Craft Heads.

Vintage WrestleManias will be screened during the day, followed by a live airing of WrestleMania 33 in the evening, and partial proceeds from the day will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
