World: World’s five major malt exporters see decline in July/December shipments
Cumulative malt shipments (all figures in grain equivalent) in July/Dec by the five major exporters were 2.9 mln tonnes, down 6% from 3.1 mln a year ago, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.
EU exports during 1 July – 21 February dropped by 12% from 2.15 to 1.9 mln tonnes. This year’s export volume is almost identical to malt shipments in 2014/15.
As capacity use of maltings in the whole world is reported to be good, the lower export numbers are a bit surprising. Business has been dull, though, in the past few months, the analysts said.
