France: Number of craft breweries doubles in five years
The number of craft breweries in France has doubled in the past five years to reach 900 in 2016, Les Echos reported on February 2.
Trade association Brasseurs de France estimates that one in ten French breweries is launched by a woman.
Microbreweries currently hold less than 5% of the French beer market. Nevertheless, it was craft beer that reinvigorated the market which had been in decline for 30 years until 2014. Today, experts estimate the total number of beers brands produced in the country to be over 5 thousand. The country is also experiencing a boom in home brewing.
