United Kingdom: Kew Gardens, the Royal Botanic Gardens, is to brew and sell its own beer, using hops grown on the site in south-west London, BBC wrote on April 25. Appointed a World Heritage site last summer, the Royal Botanic Gardens has started producing jam and other goods.

Now "Kew Brew" will be sold in a local pub and restaurants in Kew Gardens and will help fund the site's world-renowned science and conservation work. It follows a brewing exhibition at Kew last year, which included a field of barley and, one of hops. The harvested hops were then used to produce 15,000 bottles of beer, which will go on sale from 2 May at a price of £3.50 (US$6.20). Kew spokeswoman Jill Preston said the beer was the latest in a line of Kew products including jam and chutney. She added: "However, this has the magic touch of ingredients actually grown here."
