Romania: Romanian Government grants compensation for 40% of drought-affected crops
The Romanian government will pay compensations for drought-destroyed crops spanning over 720,000 hectares, which account for some 40% of the total surface of affected crops, as only these have insurance, Mediafax reported June 22.
According to data presented Friday by agriculture minister Decebal Traian Remes, the government decision enacted Wednesday stipulates compensations for 488,000 hectares of wheat, 47,000 hectares of barley, 175,000 hectares of rape and 10,000 hectares of spring barley, amounting to a total 720,000 hectares. The total surface of drought-affected crops is 1.7 million hectares.
Under Romanian law, farmers are entitled to receive compensations only for insured crops.
