Barley news Australia: ABB Grain to provide growers premium services in deregulated barley environment

Key Australian agribusiness, ABB Grain Ltd, has assured barley growers that it will continue to offer a full range of services – including pools – following the South Australian Parliament’s passing of the Barley Exporting Bill, 2007, according to ABB’s news room, March 30.

ABB Grain’s managing director, Michael Iwaniw, said the passage of the bill through the Legislative Council yesterday meant that, in effect, the ‘single desk’ for barley exports was finished and a deregulated market would operate in South Australia from July 1.

“We are well positioned to operate in the deregulated environment,” Mr Iwaniw said. “We have operated in a deregulated barley market in Victoria since the single desk ended in that state several years ago, and in a deregulated market for other commodities (apart from wheat) around Australia.

“ABB continues to expand and has increased its marketing of grain in states outside of South Australia, particularly in wheat and non-barley commodities.”

“I can assure growers ABB will continue to offer both choice and a superior range of products and services they’ve come to expect from our company in the past 68 years – including innovative pool options.

“In coming months we’ll be announcing a suite of extra services for growers that will build upon existing services and the recently formed pastoral and export division.”
