Brewing news Czech Republic: Chodovar beer sales reached 80,000 hl in 2006

Czech brewery Rodinny pivovar Chodovar sold 80,000 hl of beer in 2006, the same as a year earlier, director Jiri Plevka has told CTK January 17.

Sales of soft drinks Il-sano amounted to 10,000 hectolitres and were also stagnant year-on-year. Chodovar's total sales stayed flat at CZK 150 million, Plevka said.

Activities focusing on beer tourism accounted for around one-third of sales. Chodovar runs a restaurant, hotel and beer spa on its premises.

Chodovar opened the spa, which treats skin, vascular and ischemic diseases, in March 2006. Almost half of guests that visit Chodovar are foreigners.

Chodovar sells its beer to more than 300 restaurants in western Bohemia, with draught beer accounting for 60 percent of its output.

Chodovar's production capacity is 100,000 hectolitres without adjustments. Chodovar puts out seven types of beer and four types of the Il-sano soft drink made from own mineral water.

Chodovar exported 5,000 hectolitres of beer last year, the same as in 2005, mainly to Germany, Switzerland and Russia.
