Belgium: Competition watchdog investigates AB InBev over wholesaler, hospitality contracts
Belgium's competition watchdog opened an investigation into Anheuser-Busch InBev over concerns the brewing giant abused its dominant position in the market through its contracts with wholesalers and hospitality companies, MarketWatch reported on January 16.
The Belgian Competition Authority said on January 16 that it received reports from industry players about the brewer's commercial contracts, saying it concluded there are "serious indications of a possible infringement of competition rules."
A spokesperson for the company said it complies with local laws in the countries it operates in. "We will take this opportunity to again present and substantiate our position to the BCA and will continue to cooperate constructively throughout the evaluation," they said.
