World: French barley premium over other key origins declines
The global malting barley market has settled into a price structure where Canada, Argentina, Australia have converged to a common price point, while France continues to hold a premium position, RMI Analytics said in its early June report.
However, this French premium over these other key origins has declined, mostly as Argentina and Australia prices have moved upward.
The prospects for a reasonable 2024 barley crop are improving under generally favourable conditions (beyond the Black Sea). In concert, malting barley prices are adjusting to a positive situation, where improved availability for malting quality around the globe is being established. Of course, as we learned recently, the influences from outside markets is never far away (e.g. Russia or Australia) but an improved global S&D does provide a major stabilizing effect to the malt supply chain, the analysts said.
