Australia: Barley production forecasts range from 11.6 to 12.25 mln tonnes this year
Crop conditions remain excellent in Australia. All crops, including barley, are as good or better than in 2021, at the same point in time, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.
RMIs barley production forecast for Australia is raised to 11.6 mln tonnes which tails the ABARES estimate of 12.25 mln.
Temperatures have remained slightly cooler than normal, reducing the possibility for disease development.
Australian barley prices are unchanged, as increasing supply forces this region to maintain competitiveness in world markets. Recent Jordan tenders received offers from traders with Aussie links, which confirms demand still exists and Australia is open for business.
The ability to load barley remains constrained due to export terminals being busy with wheat/canola shipments. Domestically, maltsters and brewers are benefiting from the increase in production which is keeping prices competitive globally (e.g. benefiting malt exports into South-East Asia).
