Turkey & Saudi Arabia: Turkey and Arab Peninsula combined could import about 10 mln tonnes of barley this season
Turkey reports that drought in the east of the country reduced massively its barley crop, to 4.5 instead of the predicted 7.7 mln tonnes, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their August report.
The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) purchased 750 thousand tonnes of barley in June/July to stabilize markets, the Board is in the market for 1 mln tonnes now and plans total imports of 2.75 mln tonnes in 2021/22.
Saudi purchases are fully back in commercial channels, their actions are not immediately known.
Qatar and Jordan are in the market for some 100 thousand tonnes of barley. It looks as if Turkey and Arab Peninsula combined will import close to 10 mln tonnes of barley in 2021/22.
China returned to the barley market as well, rumours are that the country bought up to 1 mln tonnes from Ukraine and France.
