EU & UK: Spring malting barley surplus in core producing nations forecast at 500 thousand tonnes
In their May report, the H. M. Gauger GmbH analysts estimate the spring malting barley surplus in the core EU malting barley producing countries + the UK at around 500 thousand tonnes.
The biggest surplus is expected to be seen in France (1.55 mln tonnes), followed by Denmark (1 mln), the UK (300 thousand tonnes), and Sweden (200 thousand). Shortages are forecast in Germany (1.1 mln tonnes), Belgium (700 thousand), and the Netherlands (350 thousand tonnes).
The other EU countries are expected to need to import 400 thousand tonnes of spring malting barley.
