Russia & Ukraine: 2020/21 barley exports to-date total 5.5 mln tonnes for Russia, 3.73 mln tonnes for Ukraine
Russian wheat has dominated world markets early in this years campaign. Wheat exports were anticipated to reach 39 mln tonnes during the crop year, but already stood at 34.6 mln tonnes as of January 21, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their February report.
Prices shot up in domestic markets, leading to inflated retail prices in the country. The government became terrified and reacted with a grain export quota of 17.5 mln tonnes till June, and formula-based export tax system for wheat, barley, and corn. So far the export taxes have pushed up world markets, but not stabilized domestic food prices. Russian barley exports have been 5.5 mln tonnes to-date.
Ukraine belongs to the China-club. Total barley shipments to-date are 3.73 mln tonnes. Exports to China alone in July-December were 2.53 mln tonnes of barley and 3.55 mln tonnes of corn. There are rumours of large new crop corn sales as well.
