Brewing news Switzerland & Russia: Baltika starts exporting beer to Switzerland

Baltika Breweries has started exporting beer to Switzerland, the brewer said in a statement according to Interfax News Agency, February 18.

The company exported a consignment of Baltika 7 Export beer that exceeded 10,000 liters.

The beer will be marketed as premium beer. Baltika's exclusive importer in Switzerland Felschlosschen Getranke AG will distribute the beer. The Swiss company is also the distributor of Carlsberg beer.

Baltika is present on the markets of about 40 countries. The company's foreign sales amounted to 149.2 million liters in the first nine months of 2006, up 27% year-on-year.

Baltika is one of the leading breweries in Russia. It recently announced that it has finished consolidating the Vena, Pikra and Yarpivo breweries. Baltic Beverages Holding owns more than 80% of Baltika. BBH shareholders are Carlsberg A/S and Scottish & Newcastle Plc., which own 50% each of the company. BBH owns 19 breweries in seven countries in Eastern Europe, including Russia, where the company accounts for 36% of the market.
