The Czech Republic: Number of breweries exceeds 440
By the end of 2018 the number of breweries in the Czech Republic exceeded 440, Euro.cz reported on January 11 citing the president of the Czech-Moravian Union of Mini Brewers Jan uráň.
Out of the total, 45 are industrial breweries, more than 160 are microbreweries and the rest are brewpubs, he said.
Microbreweries are breweries producing less than 10 thousand hl of beer per year.
Thus there is one brewery per each 20 thousand people in the Czech Republic, which is more than in Germany where there is one brewery per 50 thousand people, uráň said.
The Union of Mini Brewers expects the sector of craft beer to continue growing in the next decade and the number of breweries will reach a thousand. There were 1294 breweries on the territory of todays Czech Republic in 1712 and 1026 breweries in 1864. 1990 saw the lowest number of breweries in the country (70), the Union reported.
