Switzerland: Swiss brewers enjoy higher sales in season 2016/17
Thanks to record high temperatures in June, the Swiss beer industry managed to close the 2016/17 brewing season with a very small decline in sales. While imports decreased by 3.5%, local beer makers triumphed, SwissInfo.ch reported on November 21.
Overall beer consumption in Switzerland registered a 0.2% decline to 4.61 mln hl in 2016/17 (Sept-Sept). However, local brewers, whose number has now reached 830, sold 0.9% more beer than during the past season 3.47 mln hl in total. Beer imports at the same time dropped to 1.14 mln hl, it is reported.
June became the second-hottest month in history and saw a 9.6% increase in beer sales, SwissInfo.ch said.
