Ukraine: Barley output forecast revised down to 7.8 mln tonnes
UkrAgroConsult on April, 8 revised down its forecast for barley output in Ukraine in 2013 to 7.8 mln tonnes (previous forecast 8.3; previous year 6.5). The planted area is expected at 3.4 mln ha (3.5; 4.2), while the harvested area is seen at 3.3 mln ha (3.4; 3.5) and yields at 2.33 t/ha (2.41; 1.88).
Total production figures include 2.9 mln tonnes (2.9; 1.5) of winter barley from a harvested area of 1.1 mln ha (1.1; 1.2) and yields averaging 2.70 t/ha (2.70; 1.91) as well as 4.9 mln tonnes (5.4; 5.1) of spring barley from a harvested area of 2.3 mln ha (2.4; 2.7) and yields averaging 2.18 t/ha (2.26; 1.88).
According to UkrAgroConsult, spring grains (without corn) have been sown on 1.2 mln ha (42% of intended area) as of April 10, 2013, which is behind last years pace of 2.7 mln ha. The five-year average stands at 3.7 mln ha for April 12. Spring wheat planted area amounted to 12,000 ha, that of barley to 1.0 mln ha, of oats to 24,000 and of peas to 121,000 ha.
