Malting news UK & Singapore: Muntons expands into Asia Pacific region

Muntons, the malt, malt extract and malt ingredients supplier, has appointed Jonathan Lau to a base in Singapore as the company's new Asia Pacific sales manager, Bury Free Press reported January 19.

Mr Lau will be responsible for the day-to-day management and development of sales of Muntons' malted ingredients in the region, focusing on the food manufacturing sector.

Andrew Suett, Muntons Malted Ingredient sales and marketing director, said: "We are extremely pleased to make this announcement, not only because Jonathan's experience will make a valuable contribution to the success of Muntons Malted Ingredients, but because this will place Muntons squarely on the map in the Asia Pacific region."

Mr Lau comes to the job having spent 10 years in chemical intermediates and food ingredients distribution and two years in international futures trading and commodity brokerage.

He said: "I am looking forward to the challenges that this new position will bring and feel confident that the local markets will rapidly embrace the benefits that Muntons ranges of products will bring."

Andy James, marketing manager for Muntons Malted Ingredients, said: "This is the first overseas appointment we have ever made so it's quite a radical step. Jonathan will be based in Singapore, but the beauty of modern communication is that he can tap straight into our computer system from there."

Mr James added the move was based on rapidly expanding markets in the region and did not signal any desire to move the company's manufacturing abroad. "We are a British company making British products with British ingredients."
