Brewing news UK: Shepherd Neame acquired coast hotel Royal Albion Hotel

Shepherd Neame, Britain's oldest brewer, has acquired one of the Kent coast's finest hotels, offering the highest quality accommodation in a unique setting, Kent brewer announced October 26.

The Royal Albion Hotel, Broadstairs, was built in 1760, and occupies an unrivalled position on the seafront in the heart of the old town, just a few steps from a sandy beach.

Charles Dickens was a regular guest - inside there is an original letter from the author on display - and each year the hotel takes part in a festival celebrating his associations with the town.

The hotel, in Albion Street, has 19 ensuite bedrooms, an atmospheric bar and restaurant with sea views, and its own terrace overlooking a garden leading onto the beach.

Run as a successful family business, it has developed an enviable reputation for fine food and hospitality among local residents and visitors to the town.

Nigel Bunting, retail director of Shepherd Neame, based in Faversham, Kent, said: "The Royal Albion is well-known for its excellent food and drink, and its high standards of service. Shepherd Neame will look to invest in all areas of the business and continue to provide prime accommodation and catering facilities for locals and tourists in an attractive location."
