Brewing news Japan: Beer shipments down 5.7% in July 2006, recording lowest level since 1992

Japanese beer shipments fell 5.7% on year in July to the lowest level for the peak-demand season month since the beer makers started keeping records in 1992, Dow Jones Newswires released August 09.

The fall was due to heavy nationwide rainfall, Japan's top two beer makers Kirin Brewery Co. and Asahi Breweries Ltd. said.

Industrywide beer shipments, which include those of regular beer, low-malt beer and beer-flavored drinks, came to 47.50 million cases, according to data released by Japanese beer makers.

One case is equivalent to 12.66 liters of beer.
