In southern regions of Ukraine harvesting campaign goes on. Barley average yield is 2.43 ha/mt
In the Southern and Central regions, winter barley and spring barley were at the stage of full grain ripeness, their harvesting continued. These crops are ripening with a delay in the Western, Northern, Eastern regions, UkrAgroConsult released in its Weekly report for the week July 17-24 .
In many regions, the high air temperatures (29-35°С) and precipitation shortages in the period of June 21/July31, when eared crops finished ripening, resulted in so-called "inflammation" of grain. Spring barley suffered from "inflammation" less than wheat, although on many areas its grain bulk contains up to 10% of puny grains.
Analysing the results of the early cereals harvesting it can be noted that higher yields of spring barley were generated than last year.
Domestic prices for barley kept stable throughout the week: US$100/MT in the Azov Sea ports, US$115-117/MT in large ports. Hryvnya prices with delivery to port are at UAH 600-615/MT СРТ. Despite the good crop, we do not expect the considerable drop in barley prices, which usually happens in Ukraine as barley supply increases. Import to countries of North Africa and Near East will continue.
