Brewing news Ukraine: Beer prices to lift by 100%

The Ukrainian Ministry of Finance came with a governmental decision project according to which all drinks manufacturers, including breweries, are liable to a special payment for using surface waters (UAH 2 per 1 cubic metre) and underground waters (UAH 4 per 1 cubic metre). The new tariffs evolved from an original fee of UAH 0.2 per cubic metre, The Union of Russian Brewers announced July 13.

Beverage manufacturers are estimating this will enable drinks prices to accordingly ramp, some believe even by 100%. Therefore, malt prices are expected to rise too, or malt in Ukraine is classified as a drink.
