Brewing news Croatia: Carlsberg rises 2006 first quarter sales by 12%

Despite the information that beer sales in Croatia plummeted in the Q106 by 3% (compared to the same period last year), Carlsberg Croatia increased overall sales by 12 percent, Croatia Times reported May 16.

Beer sales in Croatia are 2,8 down compared to the same period last year, while exports increased by as much as 83 percent (exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina alone increased by 61 percent).

"Total revenues generated by Carlsberg Croatia brewery reached in the first quarter of this year Kn 43,5 million, which represents an increase of 1 percent compared to the same period last year," said Carlsberg Croatia Director Jorn Pedersen.

As he said, the company has maintained in Q1 a market share of 12 percent.

Decreased beer sales in Croatia result from traditionally poor Q1 for beer industry in the country.

Furthermore, reports say that imports of cheap beer from Serbia are on the rise, which is directly influencing business operations of breweries in Croatia, explained Pedersen, adding at the same time that he was satisfied with the company's business results, saying that they would be improving in the course of the year.

In the first quarter of 2006, Carlsberg launched in Croatia three new products within Tuborg Green line, Tuborg Green in barrels, Tuborg Green in new 0.5 l green international bottle and Tuborg Green in 0.33 l bottle.

Also, in order to improve relations with clients and business partners, Carlsberg Croatia started publishing a magazine for buyers CC:business.

For the third year in a row, the company published a report on environmental protection.

During 2005, the company increased the amount of usable waste from 21 to 51 percent, and since July last year, sludge from processed wastewaters is used as a biological fertiliser in agriculture.

Improvements in production facilities have increased energy efficiency.

Furthermore, Carlsberg Croatia increased during 2005 production of beer by 8%, while energy consumption decreased by 16 percent per hectolitre compared to the year 2004.
