Brewing news Russia: SUN Interbrew starts "Lowenbrau"® production in Russia

SUN Interbrew Limited, the second largest beer maker of Russia, announced on March 28 it has started the production of beer brand "Lowenbrau"® on its site in Saint-Petersburg, "Interbeer" brewing company.

"Lowenbrau"® has been bottled in Russia since 1999 after the brewing company "Spaten-Lowenbrau" licensed the brand in Russia to the company "Bravo International". In 2002 following the acquisition of "Bravo International" by "Heineken Group" "Lowenbrau"'s license was taken over by "Heineken Group" till 2004. In 2004 InBev acquired the brewery "Spaten". Since November 2005 "SUN Interbrew", the InBev's subsidiary, has been distributing the beer "Lowenbrau"® in Russia.

"Lowenbrau"® is one of the oldest beer brands of Bavaria, a land of Germany, which roots trace back to 14th century. "Lowenbrau"® is a harmonious combination of traditions and a present, associated worldwide with Bavarian brewing history and beer festival "Oktoberfest" held annually in Munich. "Lowenbrau"® brewing process adheres strongly to the Purity Law according to which the only ingredients of the beer are water, malt and hop. "Lowenbrau"® is one of the most popular beer brands which is sold in more than 70 countries in the world.

The liquid of "Lowenbrau"® "® conforms fully to the traditional vision of German beer. It is brewed under Reinheitzgebot technology (Purity Law) and has 5.2% alcohol content with 12% gravity. It is a typical original Bavarian beer. Distinguishing, slightly bitter taste, sparkling color, rich hop flavor, thick white foam - are "Lowenbrau"®. The beer is bottled in 0.5l. glass bottles, 0.5l. cans and 30l. kegs. The color combinations of "Lowenbrau"® - pale blue, dark blue and golden - are original and very well remembered. The lion on the logo of the brand symbolizes strength and dignity. "Lowenbrau"® target audience is modern men of 25-40, city-dwellers with middle and high income who respect traditions, value quality, real beer experts.

The brewery "Lowenbrau" which gave the name to the brand was built in the end of 14th century in Munich, the capital of Bavaria. By the end of the 19th century it was one of the leading European breweries. The brewery "Lowenbrau" was almost completely destroyed in 1944/1945 during the Second World War but after the reconstruction it recovered its leading positions both in Germany and abroad. In 1997 "Lowenbrau" and "Spaten", the two most popular Bavarian breweries, merged and the new company took the name "Spaten-Lowenbrau". The emblem of the brewery and the "Lowenbrau"® brand is the Lion - symbol of courage, strength and leadership.
