Ukraine: Barley export is forecast at 3.8 million metric tonnes this season

About 3 million metric tonnes of barley were exported between July/February this market year. In the current season, barley export greatly lags behind last year’s pace, when 3.2 million metric tonnes of barley were exported for the first 6 months of the season. UkrAgroConsult forecasts the barley export to be 3.8 million metric tonnes this season. So the export may amount to 700-800 thousand metric tonnes for March-June 2006.

Analysts suppose that prices for feed barley, unlike all other crops, will not rise considerably. Saudi Arabia prices are at $150-160/mt C&F. This does not provide any significant room for a rise in Ukrainian barley prices. Besides, it should be taken into account that German barley prices have already almost come into line with Ukrainian ones and Australia has already appeared in the global market with its rich crop.
