Brewing news Russia: Half of Russians adults are regular beer drinkers, according to the latest poll

Half of all adults in Russia regularly drink beer, according to a poll held by ROMIR Monitoring in December 2005. 83% of beer drinkers prefer lager in glass bottles. Glass bottle is chosen by 53% of Russian lovers of beer. Of all Russian beer adherents, the 89% choose beer of 4-percent strength at the most, Kommersant news agency cited ROMIR Monitoring on January 20.

“The number of beer lovers stood at 56% past June, but the 6% drop obviously roots in weather conditions. In terms of frequency, some portion of beer drinkers usually shift to seldom/moderate sectors of consumption in December.

Four of ten respondents (42 percent) tend to drink beer when paying a visit; 41 percent prefer to do it at home or offer a drink to their guests.

The women prevail over men (46 percent to 38 percent) when it comes to home drinking of beer. This habit is favored by respondents of age from 25 to 34 years (46 percent), people with higher education (48 percent) and middle income (46 percent).

The home-after-work drinking is the third in popularity (39 percent). Men are more ready than women to drink a bottle or two after work (47 percent to 26 percent). Respondents of age from 35 to 44 years (51 percent) and people with high income (44 percent) usually drink beer at the end of the working day.

32 percent of Russians drink beer in summer cottages or in time of picnics; holidays account for 31 percent; friends' parties – 24 percent. 20 percent drink in baths or saunas; 20 percent do it at home when watching TV; 17 percent – also at home but at dinner or supper; 15 percent – in a café, a bar or a restaurant.

The poll covered 1,600 people, all of them at least 18 years old, leaving in more than 100 cities or towns or villages of Russia. The statistical error doesn't exceed 2.5 percent. “
