Peru: Beer market increased by 14% in 2005

Beer market in Peru increased by about 14% last year. The dynamism of the market is attributed to the efforts made by breweries to develop new promotional campaigns to generate higher consumption, analysts have recently commented.

Per capita beer consumption was of 28 litres in 2005, compared with 20 litres in 2001. However, this still below the Latin American average of 35 litres.

Beer demand in Peru during 2005 exceeded 100 million boxes, with the recovery being partly attributed to better family incomes. In the final months of 2005, sales were growing by between 12%-15% per month, compared with the same months during the previous year.
