Brewing news UK: Russian beers at London’s at Annual Russian Winter Festival

Russia’s Baltika, brings Siberian chill to London’s 2nd Annual Russian Winter Festival, which will take place on 14 January. There will be present Russia’s most popular bands, and the rendezvous for real Russians will surely be at the two Baltika Bars.

The Baltika St. Petersburg Bar will be located on the West side of the Square, and the Baltika Moscow Bar will be located on the East. Baltika beer representatives will be flying in from St Petersburg , the home of the Baltika brewery to join in hosting the sponsored event.

On the Trafalgar Square Saturday 14 January 2006 from 11am to 6.30pm, the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone, and the Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov, will welcome the crowd of some expected 50,000 public during this unique afternoon of free entertainment.

This year, the Russian Winter Festival takes place exactly on the Russian Old New Year’s Day, which according to the pre-revolutionary calendar was used up to 1917, and is still celebrated in Russia in mid-January. Sponsored by Baltika, this large-scale event in Trafalgar Square is organised for the second year by the Russian Economic Forum and Russian British Cultural Association, with the Mayor of London, RIA Novosti, Russian Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography, and Moscow City Government.

It highlights Russia’s cultural diversity, featuring performers from many different parts of the country and various ethnic backgrounds; from sabre twirling, to the military precision of the Kremlin Guards - President Putin’s very own equivalent of the Household Guards, to the thunder of one of Russia’s most famous rock bands DDT.
