Barley news USA: Barley markets still last week, malting barley continues being in good demand

The markets of barley were still in week 48 with cash bids unchanged in Minneapolis. Malting barley remained posted at $2.75 with feed barley at $1.70. Producers have been looking ahead to 2006, and the chances of seeing an increase in acres for next year are fairly strong.

Pro Ag reminds producers to consider planting barley that they should do so only with a contract in place. They also need to remember to place a malting endorsement in their crop insurance to ensure compensation if next year's crop is rejected. This was a concern for many this year with the quality problems many experienced.

Good quality malt barley continues to be in good demand, with buyers also starting to retest and consider barley that was previously borderline rejected.
