Brewing news India: SABMiller planning to expend in India

SABMiller plans expansion in India as it seeks to strengthen its position in emerging markets, where the consumption of beer is growing fast, a top official said on November 9 according to the Business report.

The brewer has a third of India's beer market. It has invested R887 million so far, and would spend a further $125 million (R844 million) over the next five years.

"The beer market here's growing regularly at double digits every year, and it is one of the few markets in the world where it is growing like that," said Andre Parker, the brewer's managing director of African and Asian regions.

This beer consumption makes India attractive to foreign firms but high taxes and heavy regulations represent a challenge that not everyone can assume.
