Brewing news USA: Miller brewer donates up to $ 1 million to American Red Cross to aid Hurricane relief efforts

Miller Brewing Company announced on September 1, it will donate up to $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Miller will be donating $500,000 immediately and will match all contributions from its employees and distributor partners up to an additional $500,000.

"We're grateful to be in a position to help out in this time of need," said Norman Adami, President and CEO, Miller Brewing Company. "While focusing our own activities directly on assisting our employees and distributors in the area, we hope our cash contribution and water donations will help aid agencies reach as many victims as possible."

Miller will continue to provide drinking water from its Albany, Georgia, brewery to communities throughout Louisiana and Mississippi. Eighteen truckloads of 32-ounces bottles have already been committed. Miller will continue to work with various state and federal relief agencies throughout the relief effort to donate additional water.

Milwaukee-based Miller Brewing Company is the oldest major brewer in America, celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2005. Miller is a wholly owned subsidiary of SABMiller plc, one of the world's largest brewers. Miller's principal beer brands are Miller Lite, Miller Genuine Draft and Miller High Life. The company imports Pilsner Urquell, Peroni Nastro Azzurro and Foster's and has craft brews Leinenkugel's and Henry Weinhard's. Its portfolio of brands also includes Milwaukee's Best and Sharp's, a non-alcohol brew. Miller produces Icehouse from the Plank Road Brewery, a small division of Miller; Olde English 800; and Mickey's Malt Liquor.
