News from e-malt UK: Carlsberg appointed Doug Clydesdale as CEO of its UK business from the start of 2006

Danish brewing giant, Carlsberg A/S, announced on June 13 that Doug Clydesdale will become the new CEO of Carlsberg UK on 1 January 2006. Doug will succeed Lars Fellman who will retire at the beginning of 2006.

Doug Clydesdale is currently Managing Director of Brands and Sales in Carlsberg UK, overseeing the On Trade and Take Home Sales Divisions and Marketing. Before joining Carlsberg in 1998, he held a number of senior marketing and general management positions. In his new role Doug will report to Nils S. Andersen, CEO of Carlsberg and Chairman of the UK Board.

Commenting on the appointment, Lars Fellman said: "Doug Clydesdale has made an outstanding contribution to the development of our brands over the years and I have no doubt that he will continue to build on this track record going forward."

Carlsberg UK is one of the largest brewers in the UK. The Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Carlsberg Breweries A/S of Copenhagen. Carlsberg is the fifth largest brewer in the world and sells its products in over 150 markets world-wide. The core lager brands brewed by Carlsberg UK are Carlsberg, Carlsberg Export and Carlsberg Special Brew. The main ales brewed by the Company are: Tetley's, Tetley's Smoothflow and Tetley's Cask Ale.

The Company's headquarters are in Northampton, where a brewery and national distribution centre are also located. In addition there is a brewery at Leeds, a customer service centre in Birmingham and fourteen distribution depots around the UK. The Company employs 2,500 people.
