News from e-malt Export market of balrey

Export markets of feed barley suffer from a lack of demand and from aggressive competition of Black Sea markets, analysts have recently commented. Export business of malting barley has been dormant for a long time. Since some time Russia has secured larger quantities of Scandinavian, Czech and Slovak barley to cover its needs, as there is not enough Russian malting barley of acceptable quality. More enquiries are in the market, business will continue vividly in the months to come. Also China has entered the EU market for supplies. As tramp freight rates are skyhigh, all business done so far to China is for shipment by container. It is an unusual work-intense business, and all sides hope that freight markets will allow bulk business again in the future. Altogether the EU will be able to sell a few hundred thousand tons more old crop malting barley before the next harvest.
