Malting market analyses: Malting barley needs in 2005/06 will increase with the new capacities in the EU. There is also an expectation that China will buy EU barley till October/November, when Canadian and later on Australian barley become available. Russia may need a total of 1.6 million tonnes of malting barley next campaign, and it is generally expected that such a quantity cannot be secured from their own crop. Therefore maltsters would be ill-advised to speculate on lower barley prices.
