Barley news EU & UK: French, UK, Danish malting barley prices decline consistently amid oversupply

The decline in French barley prices continues, but appears to be slowing down, RMI Analytics said in their October report.

Heavy rainfall in the Black Sea region has disrupted export logistics, providing some underlying support for feed barley and wheat prices.

As feed barley values remain relatively stable, the premium for malting barley has largely diminished, resulting in feed, winter, and spring barley grouped within a narrow price range.

The crop’26 malting premium is not attractive to buyers, who may be anticipating the current oversupply situation will ultimately weigh further on the malting premium.

UK and Danish malting prices are consistently declining in concert with French values. In Denmark, there is a good supply of malting barley looking for buyers, whereas the UK market is propped up by feed barley demand. Previously, UK export for specific malting barley varieties helped support prices, but now buying ideas are at much lower price levels.
