Brewing news USA, PA: Wissahickon Brewing opening new location in Maple Glen

Wissahickon Brewing has leased the building that was most recently the Brick & Barrel restaurant, located at 870 Welsh Road in Maple Glen (Horsham Township), and has a pending “brewery storage” license in the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Bureau’s license database. Breweries are allowed to open a handful of satelitte locations off of their initial license that are referred to generally as storage licenses, AroundAmbler.com reported on July 16.

This will be the brewery’s third location. The brewery launched in 2017 in the East Falls section of Philadelphia and recently opened its second location in the Olde Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. Brick & Barrel closed in 2024.

AroundAmbler.com spoke with Tim Gill, Jr., who operates the business with his father, Tim Gill, and his siblings. Gill, who has lived in Maple Glen for eight years, shared some details about bringing a brewery to the community where he lives.

Wissahickon Brewing wasn’t actively looking to open a third location so soon after the opening of the Olde Kensington location, but they liked the location and felt that it was something that the community would embrace.

Gill is targeting a fall opening that would capture a Phillies playoff run and a portion of the Eagles’ regular season.

Wissahickon Brewing’s original location doesn’t have a kitchen and collaborates with food trucks. For its second location in Old Kensington, the brewery hired Chef Noah Gindin to develop its first kitchen and menu. Chef Gindin will be involved in the development of the kitchen and menu in Maple Glen, which will include utilizing an existing brick oven for pizza.

In addition to beer, Wissahickon Brewing operates a coffee company brand, Wirlybird Coffee, and a small-batch kombucha brand, Inspired Brews.
