Argentina: Barley prices steady for crop 2025 on FOB basis while farmer prices slightly down
Although Argentinas barley planting is likely extending toward the end of the normal window (end of July), the good early moisture conditions are supportive to a good crop result, RMI Analytics said in their early July report.
Prices are steady for crop25 on an FOB basis, and down slightly for farmer pricing. Conversely, in the presence of some limited demand showing up for crop24, prices are slightly firmer, as farmers are expecting a small premium for the quality risk associated with late season shipment. Also, farmers have sufficient cash flow coming from corn/soybeans and therefore have little urgency to aggressively sell either old or new crop. This leaves traders in a difficult situation, where demand is present but a lack of farmer selling makes offers very limited at present and buying interest is at slightly lower price levels.
Export declarations in mid-June totalled 2.762 mln tonnes, with 0.89 mln for malting barley and 1.83 mln for feed barley. In the last month, an elevated pace for licence applications in malting versus feed barley has occurred.
