Canada: Barley crop forecast down 0.2 mln tonnes on weather concerns
Hot and dry weather is starting to raise concerns in parts of North America, from Canada (Saskatchewan) to USA (Montana), and into northern Mexico. RMI Analytics barley production forecasts are reduced slightly, under the expectation that yields are being impacted to a small degree and could worsen. For Canada, their crop25 forecast is 8.7 mln tonnes, down -0.2 mln tonnes.
With dryness concerns remaining, prices for malting are steady, while feed barley prices are down slightly, driven in part by weakness in world prices. Weakness in US corn prices is putting pressure on barley domestic feed barley, with reports of increased willingness for farmers to sell at the moment.
