Barley news World: Malting barley prices relatively quiet

Malting barley prices are relatively quiet, with only minor fluctuations, up and down slightly since the last week of March, RMI Analytics said in their early April report.

The France Rouen price has switched over to crop’25, illustrating the rather wide spread between crop years.

For crop’24, France has the most competitive prices for malting and feed barley, but with demand virtually non-existent, there is little volume trading. However, between now and crop’25 harvest, France is positioned to compete for demand that materializes (feed or malting), the analysts said.

This week’s US tariff announcement has dominated markets bu with a high degree of uncertainty remaining as to the specific impacts from this major trade disruption. Canada and Mexico have a preexisting trade deal with the US, and for now have avoided this latest round of tariffs. The rest of the barley and malt world still faces a great deal of uncertainty around global trade.
