Barley news Canada: Barley crop numbers unchanged for both crop 2024 and 2025

RMI Analytics’ Canada latest barley production numbers are unchanged for both crop’24 remaining at 8.1 mln tonnes and crop’25 at 8.8 mln tonnes.

The arrival of scattered moisture, has been beneficial to most key barley producing regions of North America. Maltster demand from crop’25 is reduced slightly due to poor beer volumes, and on the looming crisis related to the US tariffs. Offsetting this lower malting barley demand is increased feed barley usage, as US corn imports cease under the Canadian retaliatory tariffs put in place.

Canadian barley exports remain at the lower end of the range over the past five years. For China, 75% of barley imports are Australia origin, and limits the potential for a return to prior year volumes.
