Brewing news USA, CT: Problem Solved Brewing Company announces closure at the end of March

A East Windsor brewery announced plans to shut its doors within the next two months and cited the decision to close up shop due to various challenges, CTPost reported on January .

Problem Solved Brewing Company, located at 2 North Rd. #4, said it will close at the end of March in a Facebook post.

"Many factors have gone into our decision but mainly the balancing of our full time jobs, family and the demands of the brewery have become increasingly challenging," the post said. "That coupled with the uncertain economy, changing market and signing of a lengthy lease just doesn’t make sense on paper at this time."

The post thanked the brewery's patrons and staff while also saying that they would let the public know "if things change" from the anticipated March closure. It also added all involved in the business were "looking forward" to "life's next chapter."

Co-Founder Alan Bukowinski said in a statement to CT Insider that the business' lease ends in April and anyone interested in buying any equipment should contact the brewery.

"We would love to sell the equipment and have someone take over the space provided they reach an agreement with the landlord," Bukowinski said. "We have really enjoyed our time at our location but with our full time jobs and families it has become too much."

The brewery is open four days a week, according to its website. The business is open Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m., Friday from 3 - 9 p.m., Saturday from noon - 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon - 6 p.m. Its beer is "not on tap anywhere else at this time," its website says, but they have cans of their beer that can be purchased to go.

The company reported a soft-opening to the public in mid-September 2018 and before that, started a fundraiser to raise money from the public to help aid in its opening. The Kickstarter campaign garnered support from over 100 people and raised $13,401.

The campaign says that Problem Solved Brewing Company was "a collaborative effort between Alan Bukowinski and Heath Gelinas, who have been friends and brewing together for several years." It went on to say that once the friends secured the brewery's location, the space underwent a "transformation."

Problem Solved's location is the former home of Broad Brook Brewing, which later relocated to South Street in Suffield.

A number of Connecticut brewery's shuttered last year and in 2023. A Brewers Association's Annual Craft Brewing Industry Production Report in April 2024 said despite having an all-time high of operating breweries, there has been an increased rate in closings in 2023.

Earlier this month, Thimble Island Brewing Company announced the closure of its satellite location in Old Saybrook. It had only been open since May 2024, but the company said they would continue to operate their main spot in Branford.
