USA, MN: AB InBev to shut down its Moorhead malting facility
Brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev will shut down operations at its Moorhead malting plant and redirect the grain to be processed by a Twin Cities-area company in 2025, KVRR reported on November 14.
Anheuser-Busch has reached an agreement with Rahr Malting Co. to take on the full capacity of malt production for Moorhead, according to a company statement.
As a result, the Moorhead, MN Malt House will be closing, and any new supply of our ND and MN barley will be redirected to Rahrs Shakopee Malt House starting next year.
Anheuser-Buschs Elevators in West Fargo and Sutton, North Dakota will be posted for sale and will continue operations.
We recognize the significance of this announcement for our people and communities, and we are committed to ensuring that this transition is as smooth as possible for our employees.
The company says its plans will not impact any grower partnerships. Anheuser-Busch has over 250 growers across the Midwest, including North Dakota and Minnesota, which, according to the company, is more than any other brewer.
We remain committed to supporting our grower partners and will continue to source directly from them as we have for the past 165 years; we are confident that the actions were taking now will allow us to even better serve our customers while also becoming a stronger company and industry leader.
