Barley news Canada: Barley crop forecast slightly reduced as harvest wraps up amid wet conditions

The remaining 5-10% of barley harvest encountered widespread and, in areas, significant amounts of rainfall over the past two weeks. A silver lining to the rain, is the much improved soil moisture conditions which will help the 2025 crop cycle in Canada, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.

The experts’ barley crop forecast for Canada is reduced slightly by 0.2 mln tonnes to 7.8 mln tonnes as harvest wraps up amidst these wet conditions and final yields are verified.

The crop result from a quality perspective is variable, including a wide range of proteins, lighter test weight, and lower kernel sizing.

The early pace for barley exports sits slightly above the 5-Yr Avg., but concern remains high, in regards to China’s likely slowdown in total barley imports, and impacts all origins, including Canada.
